{"id":2,"date":"2019-10-09T09:51:47","date_gmt":"2019-10-09T09:51:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.cut.ac.cy\/navigator\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2021-07-24T11:37:13","modified_gmt":"2021-07-24T09:37:13","slug":"navigator","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/web.cut.ac.cy\/navigator\/","title":{"rendered":"NAVIGATOR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The NAVIGATOR project seeks to exploit <strong>Earth Observation <\/strong>datasets in addressing <strong>Cultural Heritage<\/strong> needs, capitalising on the <strong>European Copernicus space program<\/strong>. Copernicus is the European program for observing and monitoring the Earth, and it consists of a complex set of systems which collect data from multiple sources, namely Earth Observation satellites (e.g. Sentinels) and ground sensors (e.g. ground stations, airborne, sea-borne sensors). It processes these data and provides users with reliable and up-to-date information through a set of services related to environmental and security issues. Based on these services and the data collected through the Sentinels and the contributing missions, many added-value services can be tailored to specific public or commercial needs, resulting in new business opportunities.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The NAVIGATOR project is implemented under the \u201cExcellence Hubs\u201d Programme within the \u201cRESTART 2016-2020\u201d funding framework for Research, Technological Development and Innovation (RTDI) administered by Cyprus\u2019s Research and Innovation Foundation. Programme \u201cExcellence Hubs\u201d aims at promoting, bottom-up, scientific excellence through funding frontier research projects, possibly intersectoral and interdisciplinary, in cutting-edge fields.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The NAVIGATOR proposal was ranked 2nd (score 14.82\/15) out of a total of 124 proposals submitted under the \u201cPhysical Sciences and Engineering\u201d scientific area. NAVIGATOR project has a duration of 24 months, starting as from October 2019, with an overall budget of \u20ac250k.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">NAVIGATOR aims to maximise the impact of Copernicus Earth Observation data for Cultural Heritage, providing innovative solutions and methodologies.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-37\" src=\"http:\/\/web.cut.ac.cy\/navigator\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/101\/2019\/10\/footer.jpg\" alt=\"Acknowledgements\" width=\"1040\" height=\"170\" \/><\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">The project is being co-funded by the Republic of Cyprus and the Structural Funds of the European Union in Cyprus under the Research and Innovation Foundation grant agreement EXCELLENCE\/0918\/0052 (Copernicus Earth Observation Big Data for Cultural Heritage).<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NAVIGATOR project seeks to exploit Earth Observation datasets in addressing Cultural Heritage needs, capitalising on the European Copernicus space program.
