Structural characterization

  • Optical shearing (plate-plate) system for microstructure visualization under controlled flow: CSS450 LINKAM.
  • Microscopy: Olympus BX51 microscope (10Χ, 20Χ, 50Χ, 100X).
  • Imaging/image processing dedicated hardware and software: IDT CMOS,  X-STREAM VISION fast camera, JVC TK-C1380 colour camera, capture cards. Matlab, Labview, software etc.
  • RBC aggregometer: Rheoscan A200, provides RBCA time profile and five related indices in 2 minutes.
  • RBC deformability measurement system: Rheoscan D300 – provides deformability index for 0-30 Pa shear stresses.

Flow field characterization

  • micro-Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) set-up: Classic (fast camera-microscopy-laser-fluorescence) and μPIV-based (for dense RBC suspensions).


  • Microfluidic set-up: ELVEFLOW MOP-Microfluidic Organ-on-chip System, 01 µL/min to 5000 µL/min with flow and pressure sensors (0-2 bar) and programmable control, working pressure range from -900 mbar to 1000 mbar. 10 port distributor – software controlled.
  • Syringe pumps: NE-500 Programmable OEM pumps ( 0.73 µL/hr (1 mL syringe) to 2100 mL/hr (60 mL syringe)). KDS 200 ( 746 μl/hr – 147.07 ml/min).
  • Microchannels: Series of existing models.
  • Microchannel fabrication: Conventional cutting, laminate manufacturing methods,  adhesive transfer taping, polymer layering, glass slides. Molding methods: PDMS casting, glass/polymer bonding.
